Nehalem Bay, at the mouth of the scenic Nehalem River is a magical coastal paddle with abundant tidal marshes, harbor seals, clams, oysters, elk, deer, and sea birds. This bay is part of the Pacific Flyway, a major migratory route, enabling you to see many different types of birds such as Great Blue Heron and California Brown Pelican to waterfowl like buffleheads and widgeons. Peaceful and calm, it’s bordered by Nehalem Bay State Park and is a great place to explore and paddle in ocean breezes. This paddle upriver allows continued views of birds and wild animals, and a narrower channel through trees, with occasional side channels where wild roses bloom.
